Designed for continuous outdoor deployment across real-world environments.
RECAP
Project Summary
Persium Pods have been deployed across multiple locations in Kenya, capturing high-resolution air quality data across urban areas, kerbside environments influenced by traffic activity, and background sites that provide a regional baseline.
This distributed approach allows researchers and policymakers to compare pollution patterns across environments and better understand how emission sources, traffic behaviour, and atmospheric conditions shape air quality. All data streams into Persium MapView and the Persium Dashboard for live monitoring, trend analysis, and downloadable reporting.
The Challenge
Air quality exposure varies significantly depending on location. Urban centres, roadside corridors, and background environments often experience very different pollution dynamics, shaped by traffic behaviour, local emission sources, and atmospheric conditions.
Understanding these variations requires monitoring that reflects how air quality actually behaves across real-world environments, not just at a single reference station.
Persium
Deployment
Persium Pods are deployed across multiple location types in Kenya, urban centres, kerbside environments, and background monitoring sites, creating a distributed network that captures the full range of environmental conditions across the region.
Parameters monitored include key pollutants such as PM1, PM2.5, and PM10, alongside temperature, humidity, noise, and atmospheric conditions. Exact configuration tailored to each deployment location.
Monitoring through Dashboard & MapView
All monitoring data feeds into the Persium Dashboard and MapView, providing a live, interactive view of every sensor in the network.
Users can visualise environmental conditions, analyse pollution trends, identify hotspots across locations, configure threshold alerts, and generate downloadable CSV reports. Secure, encrypted user access with no limit on the number of dashboard users.
What This Enables
Distributed, hyperlocal monitoring across Kenya provides deeper insight into pollution dynamics and real-world exposure, supporting environmental research, urban planning evidence, and policy development. The deployment reflects Persium's growing presence across Africa and the increasing need for real-time environmental intelligence to help build healthier, more breathable communities.
Environmental intelligence that reaches communities across Africa.
