Designed for continuous outdoor deployment across real-world environments.

RECAP

Project Summary

Persium is deployed with the Port of London Authority to provide continuous, real-time air quality and environmental monitoring across the River Thames. Persium Pods measure PM, NO₂, wind, noise, and atmospheric conditions, giving the PLA live visibility into how vessel activity and operational patterns influence environmental conditions along the river. All data streams into Persium MapView for real-time geospatial visualisation, threshold alerts, and downloadable reporting.

The Challenge

The River Thames supports commercial shipping, passenger transport, logistics, and critical infrastructure, all generating emissions that interact with dense surrounding urban areas. Tidal conditions, changing wind patterns, and multiple vessel types make it difficult to understand how operations affect local air quality without continuous, location-specific data. Periodic sampling cannot capture the full picture.

Persium
Deployment

Persium Pods are installed across the Thames corridor, positioned to capture real-time environmental conditions across operational zones.

Measurements include:

  • PM1, PM2.5, and PM10

  • NO₂, O₃, CO, and SO₂

  • Wind speed and direction

  • Temperature, humidity, and pressure

  • Noise levels

Monitoring through MapView

All data streams into Persium MapView, a live geospatial platform that gives the PLA a connected, real-time view of environmental conditions across the river network.

Through MapView, the PLA can:

  • Monitor live conditions across the Thames corridor

  • Link pollutant changes to vessel activity and wind direction

  • Configure threshold alerts for operational response

  • Analyse trends across locations and time periods

  • Generate reports for environmental and compliance purposes

What This Enables

Continuous monitoring across the Thames gives the Port of London Authority real-time visibility into how environmental conditions change throughout the day, by vessel type, operational activity, and wind direction. The deployment replaces isolated, periodic measurements with always-on intelligence that supports ongoing environmental management, transparent regulatory reporting, and evidence-based decisions across the river network.
